Northeastern Williston Basin Margin

One large project is currently available on the northeastern margin of the Williston Basin. The area is generally north of Minot in north central North Dakota and includes the counties of Bottineau, Burke, Renville, and Ward.

PROSPECT NW-ONE

Geologic Aspects
••Gas system = in situ, late generation biogenic gas.
••Reservoirs = unconventional sandstone, shale, and coal in the Cretaceous Fox Hills and Hell Creek Formations. Local sweetspots associated with fractured reservoirs.
••Traps = probable hydrodynamic trap in artesian ground water system with controls by fracturing in regional lineament zone.
••Depth < 500 feet.
••Area > 1000 square miles (640,000 acres), potentially.

Economic Aspects
••Reserve estimate = approximately 1 TCF.
••Distance to pipeline = 5 to more than 25 miles.
••Historic production = municipal and residential in early 1900’s.
••Leases = shallow farmouts in old leases held by deeper oil production; some open parcels.
••Availability = exclusivity arrangement, immediate; single sweetspot prospects in spring, 2003.
